Walter Perrie has been one of the unsung Scottish masters of poetry
for decades. In Gathering Flame and Stone he has summonsed his
Powers to distill a great work that will last.. WILLIAM HERSHAW,
Scottish poet and editor of Lallans

The poem extends its meditative journey of consideration in a

verse belies its seriousness. Its solemnity is leavened by its speed
and buoyancy.' ALAN RIACH, Professor of Scottish Literature,
University of Glasgow
